Meath Bye-Election independent Candidate Announces the setting up of the Fathers’ Rights Party for the General Election 2007

“A 500 to 1000 first preference votes in every constituency for Fathers’ Rights” is the target set by Mr. Liam Ó Gógáin when announcing the launch of the new “Fathers’ Rights Party” at the Meath Bye-Election count in Navan today. The mission titled “justice 4 fathers 2007 ” aims to put up a Fathers’ Rights candidate in Every constituency for the next general election.

Over the next 18 months the new Fathers’ Rights Party will establish a network of activists in every constituency in the country who will canvass local communities making Men’s Health and the discrimination against Father’s and their children a core political issue in the next general election. “Standing in County Meath, where I don’t live, I have trebled the vote for “Fathers’ Rights” since first standing in my home county of Louth in 2002” said Mr.Ó Gógáin adding that he had only decided to contest in this Bye-Election less than three weeks ago.

Speaking at Simonstown count centre he explained why he stood for election.“For 13 years we have tried to seek Parental Equality and justice in Family Law courts. The mainstream political parties have only paid lip service to our requests for Equal Treatment for men and women in the family, while the levels of relationship breakdown, births outside of marriage, suicide, mens’ health problems etc. continue to spiral upwards”.

“In the absence of any real attempt by government to address mens’ needs for equal treatment, we have come to a juncture whereby it necessitates direct electoral action. By being able to manage blocks of 1000 votes in each constituency next time the Fathers’ Rights Party will have significant influence, through transfers within the PR system, on who forms the next government. When policies and legislation which treat and support both sexes with meaningful equality are implemented, the Fathers’ Rights Party will no longer need to exist and the members can go back to parenting their children with love and care and without fear of discrimination, which is all we ever wanted to do in the first place” said Mr.Ó Gógáin.

As a small agile group, who passionately care and are committed to promoting men’s health and fatherhood, the Fathers’ Rights party will benefit from the inevitable roll out of Broadband Internet facilities, the rights to Equitable Party Political Broadcasts and increasing public profile. The development of the party website at www.liamog.com will continue to provide a growing interactive information resource, for activists, researchers and father’s to ensure a coherent and effective impact on the general election in 2007.

The Fathers’ Rights Party is set to overturn traditional politics. “When you turn this poll upside down what you get is the Fathers’ Rights and justice party on top” said Mr.Ó Gógáin.
